Magnolia Heart & Vascular Center Conducts 500th Open-Heart Procedure

Magnolia Heart & Vascular Center conducted its 500th open-heart procedure on Saturday, July 19, 2010. C. Max Hutchinson, M.D., F.A.C.C., a cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon with Magnolia Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery clinic conducted the surgery. Dr. Hutchinson also conducted the center’s first open heart procedure on October 31, 2007.

We are pleased to be able to continue to provide care to patients in Alcorn County and the surrounding communities,” stated Dr. Hutchinson. He added, “Heart patients like Mr. Martindale no longer have to travel great distances to receive the highest quality healthcare. The convenience for patients’ family is certainly a tremendous added benefit as well.”

The Heart Center’s 500th patient, Doug Martindale of the Walnut, Mississippi community, expressed his great appreciation for all of those involved in his care. Martindale stated, “They all did a fine job.”

Martindale, age 43, drove himself to the Magnolia Regional Health Center Emergency department on Thursday, June 17, 2010, accompanied by his wife. He also received care under interventional cardiologist, John W. Prather, PhD, M.D., F.A.C.C. Two days after his arrival at MRHC, Martindale became MRHC’s 500th open-heart patient.
