Magnolia Regional Health Center Medical Staff Donates Funds for Haiti earthquake Relief Effort
The Magnolia Regional Health Center medical staff recently donated $4,000 to the Black History Museum of Corinth Haiti Disaster Relief Fund.
While physicians around the nation celebrated National Doctor’s Day on Tuesday, March 30, 2010, MRHC’s medical staff chose to forgo celebrating and instead turn their attention to the massive relief effort following January’s earthquake in Haiti. What has annually been a day of celebration among local physicians, this year’s Doctor’s Day there was no gallant themed luncheon, no streamers hung along the hospital’s hallways and no employees dressed as buccaneers as during last year’s “Pirates of the Caribbean” event. Instead, the MRHC medical staff, lead by the Medical Executive Committee, decided to go without the usual Doctor’s Day merriment and donate the funds initially allocated to finance the day’s activities for the disaster relief effort in Haiti.
The MRHC medical staff has made a commitment to providing the highest quality healthcare to the people of Corinth and Alcorn County and the surrounding communities that the facility serves. With this donation the physicians have taken a step toward ensuring that individuals in the areas affected by the earthquake will have access to items necessary for daily living.
“Our medical staff is pleased to take this opportunity to assist the victims of January’s earthquake in their recovery efforts,” stated MRHC Chief of Medical Staff, Dr. Randall Frazier. He added, “It is our hope that this donation will make a positive impact on the health and well-being of the people of Haiti.”
According to the American Red Cross as many as three million people have been affected by the quake, which collapsed government buildings and caused major damage to hospitals in the area. With spring rains in the area set to officially begin today, April 1, concerns are rising about the safety of many of the quake’s survivors and drawing attention to the urgency of the relief effort.
