RE: MRHC is the FIRST Hospital in North Mississippi to Take a Lifesaving Step through Technology of BMV (Bedside Medication Verification)
Magnolia Regional Health Center is proud to announce the implementation of BMV (Bedside Medication Verification) and EMAR (Electronic Medication Administration Record).
Effective January 28, 2008, Magnolia Regional Health Center implements the BMV and EMAR Systems to assure patient safety during medication administration. This new process, BMV (Bedside Medication Verification) enhances safe medication administration through the “Five Rights” of medication management:
Right Patient
Right Medication
Right Dosage
Right Route
Right Time
To provide positive patient identification, patient wristbands now include a barcode that allows the caregiver to scan the code and view the proper medications for that specific patient. The EMAR (Electronic Medication Administration Record) allows us to see which nurse or physician administered the medication and full details to confirm the “Five Rights” (listed above).
BMV enables caregivers to confirm patient medication information against data already stored in MRHC’s MEDITECH System. With the BMV & EMAR technology, MRHC is now able to utilize barcode technology; users can scan patient information, medication and orders at the bedside to run checks in the system to verify medication is administered correctly. All pertinent information on the patient and on specific medication is displayed in the EMAR.
The FDA (Federal Drug Administration) encourages hospitals to implement a bar code system to decrease the risk of medication events. To keep safety a priority, along with the BMV, MRHC follows the Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals as a guideline to keep our patients safe.
Magnolia Regional Health Center is proud to be the first hospital in North Mississippi to implement the BMV and EMAR System to help keep our patients safe from medication administration error.
