Final Approval from the Mississippi Department of Health for MRHC to offer Open Heart Services
The Board of Trustees and staff of Magnolia Regional Health Center, the City of Corinth, Mississippi and Alcorn County, Mississippi are proud to announce that the Mississippi Department of Health has issued a final approval for MRHC to offer Open Heart Services.
Over a year ago the exploration of the possibilities of expanding the cardiovascular service lines to include Open Heart at MRHC was instituted. The estimated increase in the incidence rates of cardiac conditions will place a greater demand on MRHC as the national growth of cardiovascular disease is expected to reach up to 13% each year and the demand for advanced cardiovascular services can be expected to continue through out the next decade. These statistics have caused MRHC to focus on the importance of future planning.
MRHC was able to compile a strong Certificate of Need application for Open Heart Services which was submitted to the Mississippi Department of Health in July, 2006. The CON application was reviewed by the staff of the Mississippi Department of Health and was recommended for approval in August, 2006. The State Health Officer reviewed the CON application to ensure compliance with the State Health Plan, and issued a final approval on September 28, 2006.
Magnolia Regional Health Center will now begin the year long process of constructing the new Open Heart Program, which will involve recruiting a top tier Cardiovascular Surgical Group. This new service line will create approximately 50 to 100 new jobs. MRHC will also build two new cardiovascular operating room suites, along with a new specialty cardiovascular intensive care unit. MRHC looks to begin our first procedures in November of 2007.
This is a very exciting time for MRHC with our current construction and renovation project underway, and now, having the opportunity to provide advanced cardiology services. Magnolia Regional Health Center would like to take this opportunity to ensure the residents of Corinth, Alcorn County, and the surrounding communities that the highest quality of advanced cardiovascular services will be offered at MRHC and we are proud that Open Heart Services will now be offered right here at home.
