Position Title: Medical Transcriptionist

Position Description: To provide accurate and timely transcription of dictated reports for all patient care.

    Qualifications:
    Education:High School Graduate with college courses in medical office and health information management including medical terminology, typing and transcription, office computerization, abstracting and word processing systems; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    Special Skills:LANGUAGE SKILLS:
    Ability to read and interpret documents and procedure manuals. Ability to type reports, and understand various transcription guidelines as required. Ability to revise dictation based on AAMT guidelines, without changing dictation content. Ability to punctuate, spell and use appropriate grammar. Ability to communicate effectively and participate in department and facility wide improvement activities.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs and flow charts.

    REASONING ABILITY:
    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems that may cross departmental lines and work to effect solutions. Ability to distinguish body systems, diseases and treatment, and transcribe dictation accurately. Ability to utilize dictation/transcription equipment independently and effectively.

    The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
