Diabetes Center
The Magnolia Diabetes Center is dedicated to providing expert diabetes
care and education to the people of our community. The Southern states comprise
what the Centers of Disease call "The Diabetes Belt", Mississippi currently
ranks number 1 in the United States in the number of diabetics we have in our
population. We see this as an appalling number and want to do all that we can
to improve the health of everyone in our area. We follow the current guidelines
and recommendations for treatment and education as outlined by the American
Diabetes Association and the American Association of Diabetes Educators. The
MRHC Diabetes Center offers in-patient physician referrals for diabetes
treatment as well as both inpatient and outpatient education.

We support the primary goal of diabetes education as being there to provide knowledge and skills, helping to identify barriers to effective self-care, facilitate both problem solving as well as coping skills. Our educational focus is on learning and living the 7 identified self-care behaviors that are necessary for improved health and quality of life. These behaviors are listed below.

Diabetes care and education is an ongoing, interactive process involving the person with diabetes (and/or the caregiver or family) and a diabetes educator. Our goal is to help each individual realize their optimal health status, have a better quality of life, and reduce the need for costly health care.
