Dr. Smith is a graduate of Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Winston-Salem, NC. He completed his general surgery residency at Kendall Regional Medical Center, Miami, FL. Dr. Smith did a surgical critical care fellowship at Orlando Regional Medical Center in Orlando, FL, followed by a cardiothoracic fellowship at Albany Medical Center, Albany, NY. He offers up-to-date ICU perspectives in ventilator management, the treatment of shock and organ failure, as well as evidence based guideline development.
Dr. Smith has board certifications in general surgery, surgical critical care, and cardiothoracic surgery. His clinical interests include broad based cardiac surgery, including coronary artery bypass grafting, ascending aortic and aortic arch surgery, treatment of valvular heart disease such as mitral repairs and replacements, aortic valve and root replacements, tricuspid valve repairs and replacements, endocarditis surgery, and the treatment of atrial fibrillation with minimally invasive left atrial appendage clipping and the maze procedure.
Dr. Smith also specializes in thoracic Surgery, including minimally invasive and robotic surgery on the lung and chest organs, minimally invasive hiatal hernia repairs, and thymus and mediastinal tumor resections.
Dr. Smith resides in Corinth with his wife and children.
