Laboratory Services

Laboratory Tests

Most patients admitted to the hospital have laboratory tests during their hospital stay. Nationally certified technologists perform these tests. The department of laboratory medicine is accredited by the College of American Pathologists, American Association of Blood Banks, CLIA-88 and JCAHO.

Regional Laboratory Testing

This department supports and provides for medical and legal laboratory testing requirements for the Northeast Region of Mississippi, South Central Region of Tennessee and the Northwest Region of Alabama. The department of laboratory medicine performs testing in the areas of anatomic pathology, clinical chemistry, blood banking, immunology, coagulation, hematology, urinalysis, and microbiology. Some patients need blood or blood components during their hospital stay. All blood and blood components are procured from volunteer donors.

As mandated by federal regulations, all blood and blood components are fully tested for diseases that commonly cause transfusion problems.
