Under the direction of Dr. John Wayne Prather, PhD, MD, FACC, the Cardiology Fellowship Program at Magnolia Regional Health Center offers a structured three year program of training designed to prepare highly qualified candidates for careers in clinical and investigative cardiology.

This Intensive experience, under close supervision of full-time staff, is provided in all major clinical and laboratory aspects of cardiology.

During training all fellows rotate through the cardiac catheterization laboratory, echocardiography, electrophysiology, graphics (ECG, stress testing, ambulatory monitoring, pacemaker analysis), and nuclear cardiology laboratories.

From the beginning of training one half day per week is spent working under careful supervision in the Outpatient Cardiology Practice.


In addition, each fellow is expected to participate in one or more areas of ongoing research.

Two Positions Per Year

Our fellowship program offers 2 positions per year and is a comprehensive program that fulfills fellowship requirements of specialty boards of certification. Those training in invasive cardiology require the fourth separately accredited year in Interventional Cardiology to become fully proficient in angioplasty and other interventional techniques and/or certification.

Program Curriculum

Academically & Clinically Structured Program

Our didactic curriculum includes: daily morning report & noon lectures, case presentation, attending lectures, grand rounds, morbidity & mortality, tissue and tumor, OMM lab and lecture, journal club. resident lecture, research opportunities and an ambulatory care clinic experience.
