“Our medical students are an integral part of our healthcare team at MRHC. Whether it be on rounds with our Internal Medicine Residents, assisting a surgeon in the operating room, or performing bedside point of care ultrasonography with our emergency medicine faculty, medical students will receive an experience like that of a university center, only with more autonomy and attending interaction, which I believe is a crucial experience for postgraduate physician medical training.”
– J. Peyton Preece, DO, FACOI – Director, Student Medical Education
Magnolia Regional Health Center became a core teaching site for Medical Students in August of 2006, beginning with three medical students from Pikeville, Kentucky and have since advanced our affiliations with additional colleges of medicine. Medical students spend their third year of medical school at our facility for core rotations and possibly the fourth year with certain elective and selective rotations. We currently have 22 Third year students and 15 Fourth Year students. Medical Student affiliations are with NSUCOM, WCUCOM, KCUMB, UP-KYCOM, LMUDCOM and ICOM.
Physicians within our medical staff assist with the clinical and rotational requirements of our medical students. These physicians are key to the success of our program and were selected because of their willingness and expertise in enhancing the educational process for future physicians
to this area. We know the students that graduate from our program will be a shining reflection upon their school, our organization, as well as our medical staff.
At Magnolia Regional Health Center we welcome the opportunity to be a part of the future of providing highly trained and qualified physicians to Alcorn County and the surrounding communities. Student doctors are an integral part of our team and we strongly encourage you to consider a one month audition rotation if you are interested in internal medicine residency.
In addition to core medical student rotations, ‘shadowing’ opportunities for those who are in the medical school application completion process, or those who want to see if this may be a plan for their future are available upon scheduling request.
