Welcoming Dr. Sophia Thang: Bringing Advanced Heart Care Home to Corinth

Magnolia Regional Health Center is proud to welcome interventional cardiologist Dr. Sophia P. Thang to Magnolia Heart & Lung Clinic.

For Dr. Thang, this return is more than the next step in her medical career—it is a homecoming to the community where she completed much of her medical training and built lasting professional and personal connections.

A graduate of Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Florida, Dr. Thang brings a unique combination of medical expertise and engineering knowledge to her practice. Before pursuing medicine, she earned both a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Houston.

Dr. Thang began her postgraduate medical training at Magnolia Regional Health Center, where she completed her Internal Medicine Residency. She continued her education at MRHC through a Cardiology Fellowship, gaining extensive experience in diagnosing and treating cardiovascular disease. Her commitment to advancing patient care then led her to pursue specialized training in Interventional Cardiology.

Dr. Thang completed her Interventional Cardiology Fellowship at Mount Sinai Fuster Heart Hospital in New York City, one of the nation’s premier cardiovascular centers and a globally recognized leader in heart care and research. There, she trained in some of the most advanced techniques available in cardiovascular medicine.

At Magnolia Heart & Lung Clinic, Dr. Thang practices alongside her husband, interventional cardiologist Dr. Paul M. Volansky, and Nurse Practitioner Kim Marlar. Together, they are expanding access to high-quality cardiovascular care for patients across northeast Mississippi and surrounding communities.

Dr. Thang specializes in plaque modification and complex coronary interventions, advanced procedures used to treat patients with challenging forms of heart disease. These specialized services are often available only at larger metropolitan medical centers, making her expertise a valuable addition to healthcare resources in the region.

Her addition allows many patients to receive highly specialized cardiovascular care closer to home, reducing the need for travel while ensuring access to the latest treatment options.

In addition to performing advanced procedures, Dr. Thang provides comprehensive care for a wide range of heart and vascular conditions. Her practice focuses on prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management, helping patients improve their cardiovascular health and quality of life.

Magnolia Regional Health Center is pleased to have Dr. Thang as part of its medical staff. Her expertise, compassion, and dedication to patient care further strengthen the hospital’s commitment to providing exceptional cardiovascular services close to home.
