MRHC Introduces New Billing Process

Patients who received care at Magnolia Regional Health Center (MRHC) may notice a change in billing moving forward.

MRHC recently implemented changes to the self-pay billing and collections process. These changes may result in patients receiving multiple bills from past encounters at MRHC and its clinics, both now and in the future.

“We heard from our patients that, during the conversion of our electronic medical record (EMR) system and purchasing of new clinics, it generated confusion regarding billing and statements,” explains Deonne Henry, Executive Director of Revenue Cycle at MRHC. “We listened to those concerns and have made some recent changes to provide the best billing practices for our patients.”

Henry added, “All self-pay accounts, whether hospital or clinic, now go to our extended business office. Patients will receive multiple statements because of the decision to restart the collections cycle versus turning outstanding accounts over to collections. MRHC wanted to ensure that everyone was aware and understood the recent changes that were made to enhance their billing and collections process.”

Moving forward, all patients will receive one statement for each visit that has a self-pay balance. Once an individual has received a statement for each visit, patients will then start to receive consolidated Medical Billing Statementstatements detailing all accounts with balances, which will include various payment method options.

“In an effort to maintain transparency, we want all of our patients and customers to understand what the multiple bills from MRHC mean,” explained Henry.

Ultimately, the new process is to ensure all patients receive statements for their outstanding balances and allow for any questions regarding balances.

“The goal is to provide patients with a primary statement per each encounter, then submit consolidated statements thereafter,” said Henry. “These changes explain why MRHC patients might be receiving bills from past encounters from MRHC.”

Consolidated Payment of Accounts

Henry stated, “We appreciate our patients and strive to make the billing and collections process much more transparent and smooth. That was the rationale for moving towards consolidated billing and payment methods. Patients now have the ability to pay all accounts with one payment.”

Moving forward, if an individual has an outstanding balance from a hospital visit, clinic visit, or both, the bills can all be paid together in one transaction at the business office.
